Bouldering at wuthering heights - Lakes District
This weekend we decided to put our brand new boulder-mat to use, as well as to test out our brand-new tent. So there we went: up to the Lakes District, in a tiny place called Wasdale Head. It's gorgeous.
The Lakes bouldering discription on the web says this: "Situated on the North East facing slopes of Yewbarrow fell in the valley of Wasdale, the Stirrup boulders are an excellent collection of around seven large blocks in a beautiful mountain setting, commanding superb views of Gable and the Scafell crags." And a slope it was! We decided on several problems that should be easy enough for us (V0 - probably comparable to a 4 in Britain and 5a in the Netherlands) to simply skip it, because of the risk of falling and rolling down the very, very steep slope that consisted already mostly out of scree.
But hey, we managed to do some V0s on do-not-mention-it-to-your-mum steep slopes. Don't get me wrong: probably the experienced British boulderer would be laughing at us now. But for beginners outdoor-boulderers that was pretty f*ing scary!!!
Here's a nice heroic picture of Jon.
